It was a hard-fought defensive battle from the opening whistle as both teams came ready to compete. The Somerset Bulldogs faced some early adversity, going into halftime down 3–0 after Fredericksburg capitalized on a muffed punt and turnover that set up a 26-yard field goal by Santi Villa in the first quarter. Despite the slow start, the Bulldogs regrouped and refocused at halftime after a fiery speech from Head Coach Koy Detmer.
Somerset came out attacking in the second half, igniting their passing game with a 45-yard bomb from quarterback Kaleb Flores to wide receiver Qwanell Nesby. Shortly after, Flores found WR Malakai Iverson for a 40-yard touchdown to give the Bulldogs the lead. Somerset kicker Oscar Bentley added to the scoreboard with a 39-yard field goal, extending the advantage to 10–3. Running back John Alvarez then broke loose on a 40-plus-yard screen pass for another score, pushing Somerset ahead 17–3. Fredericksburg fought back with a long 50-yard touchdown pass from QB Kress Mohr in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to 17–10, but that would be as close as they would get.
The Bulldogs’ dominant offensive line, anchored by center “Big Jake” Seay, took over down the stretch—pounding the ball with powerful runs and controlling the clock. Their physicality up front wore down Fredericksburg’s defense, sealing the victory for Somerset.
Final Score: Somerset 17, Fredericksburg 10
