At 5’5” and 170 pounds, Trey Mercadante is a strong and determined two-way lineman from Hockley, Texas. As a center and defensive tackle, Trey has worked hard to build endurance and strength, allowing him to hold blocks longer on offense and shed them more effectively on defense. His growth this offseason has been fueled by a determination to prepare himself for the challenges of high school football.

Off the field, Trey shows the discipline and maturity needed to excel as a student-athlete. By keeping a set schedule and prioritizing his schoolwork, he makes sure his academics come first while still dedicating himself fully to practices and training. His goals this season include working hard, learning from coaches, and putting himself in the best position to succeed as he transitions into high school. With a rivalry matchup against Waller Junior High on the horizon, Trey is ready to prove his leadership and toughness in the “bragging rights” game of the season.

Q: What have you improved on this year?

Trey: “I have improved my endurance greatly. I have also improved on my strength allowing me to hold blocks longer. This also helps with fighting off blocks while on defense.”

Q: How do you keep your balance between school and football?

Trey: “I have a schedule that I keep and focus on. School and work are most important followed by practice and training.”

Q: What goals have you set for yourself?

Trey: “My goals are to put myself in the best position going into high school. I am doing this by working hard and listening to little tidbits from the coaching staff.”

Q: How is the team chemistry this year?

Trey: “We are coming together nicely. Most of us have played together for a while and work well together knowing the others’ strengths or weaknesses.”

Q: Which game are you looking forward to most?

Trey: “Waller Junior High. That is our rivalry game and ‘bragging rights’ game for our town. I played peewee with a lot of the guys on that team.”

Trey’s coachability, leadership, and quickness in the trenches make him a valuable presence who will thrive as he steps into high school competition.
