NATIONAL RADAR GAME RECAP
Boerne Champion head coach Blane Ellis brought a fully loaded game plan into the Southwest Dragons’ backyard Thursday night, and the Chargers wasted no time asserting control. Quarterback Julian Navarrete set the tone early, connecting with WR Brogan Dempsey for the first of his two touchdown receptions. Navarrete continued dealing from the pocket, finding WR #9 for another score as the Chargers offense operated with precision and big-play efficiency. By night’s end, Navarrete accounted for four total touchdowns, a standout performance that powered Champion to a commanding lead.
The offensive showcase didn’t end there. Backup quarterback Grant Joyner entered the game late and made an immediate impact, delivering a touchdown pass to WR Brayden Church to cap off a complete performance by the Champion passing attack. The Chargers’ defense matched the offense’s intensity, shutting down the Dragons’ well-known ground game and forcing mistakes. One of the game’s key momentum plays came from DE Brady Giles, who recovered a muffed punt snap deep in Southwest territory, setting up yet another scoring opportunity and keeping the pressure squarely on the Dragons.
Despite facing a steep halftime deficit—Champion led by more than 30 at the break—Coach Alex Franco’s Southwest Dragons continued to battle to the final whistle. The Dragons found the end zone twice, highlighted by a strong touchdown grab from WR Nehemiah Persons. QB Julleus Castillo also delivered a gritty two-way performance, making plays through the air while contributing at inside linebacker. The Southwest defense produced one of the night’s most impressive moments as DB Felipe Muniz secured a clutch interception in the end zone, halting a potential Boerne Champion scoring drive.
Coach Franco’s Dragons finish the year with pride, their toughness and competitiveness a direct reflection of the leadership within the program. Meanwhile, Coach Ellis has his Chargers firing on all cylinders as they head into next week’s playoff matchup. If Thursday night was any indication, Boerne Champion looks built for a deep postseason run.
